Appearance

Charlie is described as scrawny, skinny and a little on the smaller side, as well as pale, with brown eyes. At early canon points before meeting Simon, he looks weak and exhausted with chapped lips and dark circles under his eyes. His PB is Connor Paolo, with icons taken from the movie Stake Land (ironically his character is fighting vampires). Connor was likely 20 at the time of filming the movie, so a touch younger than Charlie, but a super accurate PB for a book character is stupid difficult to find so I did my best. Connor 5'7" so we'll use that as Charlie's height too.

Voice

Connor Paolo voice clip. Though his mannerisms are likely a little different. Panic leads to repeated words (usually some form of "no.") Often loses the ability to form coherent sentences when he's flustered, though may also descend into babbling. And he is very easily flustered.

The "Supernatural Suckers" book series by Silvana Falcon, specifically the second book called The World's Wimpiest Vampire.

Abilities

THE WORLD'S WIMPIEST VAMPIRE

VAMPIRISM

Heightened senses, ability to sense heartbeats and even hear the blood pumping through mortal's bodies (worse when he hasn't fed, and in fact noises can be Too Loud in that state). This also comes packaged with the ability to know exactly when the sun will set and rise -- which is only really helpful for those who don't have access to a weather app or search engine. More helpful is the speedier than normal recovery times from most injuries, provided he has fed recently enough. Weaknesses include sunlight (more of a slow cooker situation than an instant kill), silver weapons (hurts more, takes longer to heal), stake to the heart (full death), and decapitation (full death). He doesn't need an invitation to enter into someone's home, and he can see his reflection (ask Charlie whether that's a pro or a con, I dare you). Jury is out on garlic.

SUPER SPEED

In the beginning he has no control over this and it mainly only triggered on instinct, but he has the ability to run at top speeds, enough to be essentially a blur to the human eye. He can use this ability (once he's gained control over it) to scale vertically up walls at high speeds as well. It's implied that this is Charlie's specialty power, and that it may surpass other vampires abilities.

SUPER STRENGTH

As long as he's not currently starving, Charlie has the ability to lift an entire couch one handed and with ease, including with someone on it. The limits of this are unknown. Maybe he'll try picking up a car sometime, who knows.

SIRE BOND (WITH SIMON)

After Simon fed him his blood for the first time, it unknowingly created a Sire Bond between them since Simon is part vampire and his was the first blood Charlie consumed since being turned. Initially this could be used by Simon to order Charlie to do anything he says, and Charlie would be compelled to obey (though not 100% impossible to refuse). Since becoming a full-fledged vampire (Charlie giving him blood in turn), however, Simon no longer has that ability with their bond, they're equals, but other aspects of it still remain. They can sense each other through their bond, if the other is in danger, where the other is at, and even to an extent their feelings.

ANIMAL SHIFTING (RABBIT)

While much of popular media depicts vampires turning into bats, the truth is they each can turn into a predator animal that corresponds to their most unique abilities. Charlie's special ability is his super speed. He is the only known vampire to shift into a prey animal instead of a predator: a fluffy brown bunny... who can move at high speeds and wreak havoc in catastrophically obnoxious (and hysterical) ways. It's also a little inconvenient that he's always naked after he shifts back. He doesn't have the best of control over his, and feelings of being hunted, fear, or occasionally even surprise can trigger him shifting into a rabbit involuntarily. In the beginning it was also tough for him to shift back after Becoming Bunny, because his brain was very intent on only thinking Bunny Thoughts. Sometimes he also partially shifts on accident, such as his first kiss with Simon leading to a surprise appearance by Bunny Tail.

Frequently apologizes for everything under the sun. He can't remember the last time he wanted to harm someone, he's not sure he ever has. Socially awkward, clumsy, but an absolute sweetheart. Severe self-esteem issues, non-confrontational, and not the least bit ambitious. He loves fantasy books, has a small potted succulent named Marvin, and faints at the sight of blood. Some of his traits change and he grows a bit as a person throughout the book, so he may be a tiny bit different depending on canon point but not drastically different.

History

THE WORLD'S WIMPIEST VAMPIRE

Charlie went to Rosie's Bar with his friend Brent one night to drink and try and forget some things. Tipsy but not drunk, he followed a guy out to the alley when asked, and proceeded to get bitten and turned by a drunk asshole vampire as a joke and apparently a dare. "Turn this loser, see how long he lasts." But the vampire regretted the decision and abandoned him to fend for himself.

He spent three weeks living (or unliving, considering the vampirism) off of red foods (idealistically and foolishly hoping they maybe contained nutrients he'd need as a vampire) because he felt biting humans was a consent issue. He's also always had the tendency to faint at the sight of blood. He worked night shifts at his job at a 24hr convenience store across the street from a concert venue. In three weeks, there were three incidents of him fainting on the job when someone came in bleeding from minor things like paper cuts and skinned knees.

By three weeks, he's exhausted, pale, with chapped lips and dark circles under his eyes, and he can hear human heartbeats too loud and sense the blood running through their veins. But he refuses to hurt anyone, ever.

Meanwhile, a vampire hunter organization is fed false information about him to make him seem like a powerful and dangerous monster that must be stopped. They send their best hunter after him: Simon Hale.

Simon first finds him in a laundromat covered in cherry syrup (after Charlie spilled it everywhere attempting to fix the slushie machine at work). He threatens him, triggering Charlie's super speed which results in a bizarre and hilarious scene of the poor vampire pinballing around the laundromat like a cartoon character and accidentally escaping in a laundry cart full of someone else's clothes. Charlie's immediate thought after this escape is to worry that he's a thief, with a plan to return the clothes he accidentally stole at a later time.

The next time Simon finds him while he's at work and casually slices open his thumb on his knife ("accidentally"), to see Charlie's reaction to the blood. Charlie's reaction is first typical vampire reaction (eyes darken, fangs descend), followed by telling him where the first aid kit is located and then fainting onto the floor behind the shop counter. His boss expresses exasperation at this happening "again," which is mildly bewildering to Simon but who is still convinced it must all be an act. He essentially kidnaps Charlie from his workplace, lying to the manager that he's Charlie's cousin and he's going to take care of him. Instead, he brings the young vampire to his home to watch him.

While at Simon's expensive, enormous, but soulless apartment, Simon gives him some of his blood in an opaque water bottle so that Charlie can't see the blood he's drinking..That works, and helps stabilize him, though it also results in him thereon out craving specifically Simon's blood.
